keeping busy...

Well... It's been a while. This semester has been quite busy, and although I have enjoyed a few of the classes... it has been crazy. I have loved parts, and I feel like I have gotten a lot done, but still, at times I feel like I am just wasting time right now. I know that it is all worth the time and energy, but this semester in particular has not been one that I feel has been particularly useful overall. So, I am really looking forward to the next semester.

I think it will be a nice change. Not only will I actually be taking courses that apply to my intended career, I will also be starting a new job in December, one that is actually in the field I would like to stay in. I think It will be a great chance for me to not only earn some money, but also it will give me the chance to see if this is actually the career I really want.

Also, I am really looking forward to March... although I have been looking forward to getting married for a while now, the prospect of change keeps looking better as time passes.

Amy's Birthday

It was Amy's birthday yesterday and we went out for the afternoon/evening. It was nice to get away by ourselves, and dinner with her is always fun for any reason.

Also, it's nice to not feel as sick, the last few days last week was not fun at all.

Busy

I have been quite busy the past few weeks... for a number of different reasons...

I'll just make a list.

1. I'm engaged, so there's plenty of wedding planning to be done.
2. I'm a senior in college, so there are classes to go to.
3. I work on campus.
4. I'm considering graduate school, so there are some tests I should take and forms to fill out.
5. If I don't do graduate schoolI need to find a job after I graduate.

So, all things considered... I'm busy, but pretty happy with it all... and finally getting around to an update.

Dell

According to Tom West, a Dell expert who was on CNN this morning, in order to be prepared for college you should look at the school's computer recommendations before making the choice between a "laptop or a notebook."

I just want to know what the difference is...

Also he said that many campuses are "wired for wireless." That isn't as bad.... just a little strange.

Same old...

I'm still just working IT. It's been a pretty good job, and it has been nice to get the job experience. Really that's about it, worked at home for a week, now I'm back on the road. I did get a chance in there to spend a weekend in Anderson, which was pretty fun.

Also, I've been playing around with a different programming language, "R". From what little I've done... it seems very good for it's designed purpose... (math/stats).

Other than that I'm just waiting to get back to school and looking forward to my senior year.

Interesting Fact about Windows Vista Beta 2

My brother and I were talking and discovered a fun fact. We calculate that if you were to save Windows Vista Beta 2 to floppy... it would take 2223 floppy disks (1.44 MB per disk), and also, if you were to put them all in a stack, the stack would be about 23 feet 2 inches tall.

so... been a while since

It's been a busy month or so. I've been working a lot, then I had a week long florida vacation around July 4th.

Basically... everything is going well.

Also, I just noticed that my page is third link on google when you search for my name... not bad.

summer

So... I've been busy... last week was spent in Ohio, and this week was in South Bend... except for wednesday afternoon. That was when I went to Chicago for a Cubs game.

p.s. long distance is not exactly fun... possible... but not fun.

Work

So... 3rd day working in Columbus, OH. Interesting city, looks and feels like a big city during the day, but at night it's completely dead... everything, including most restuarants downtown are closed by 9pm. It's just a little odd.

Anyway, Columbus this week, and last week was Livingston, NJ. I'm enjoying the travel, but we're doing pretty long hours... not really a problem though because I get overtime this way.

Next week I'll be back in South Bend for the week, which will be nice. Also Amy is planning to drive up this weekend, so it'll be great to see her.

Anyway, back to work...

Work

I'm enjoying my summer internship. It involves moving people from old laptops to new ones. We take their laptops, backup everything they need to the new computer, then return them.

Also we get to travel to a few different offices, which is pretty nice.

On a different note, we got new cell phones yesterday and made the switch from verizon to cingular. The biggest reason, at least for me, to switch is that cingular doesn't break bluetooth... unlike some people.

So, we got the phones last night and today I ordered a usb bluetooth adapter from newegg.com.

Good stuff

Update

It's been a while... and I've been busy... finals, then moving, and now an internship... it keeps me busy.

A couple quick things to note:

- I love the internship so far... It looks like it'll be a fun summer job.
- The Chatterbox in Indy has some great music... quite enjoyable
- I have an old laptop and a desktop that I would kinda like to sell... both are decent, but old... so we'll see what happens there...

Dumpster Diving?

So... I just saw a group of guys attempt to dump a refrigerator in a dumpster on campus in broad daylight.... seriously... did they not know that was illegal?

They got caught in the act and had to climb in and lift the fridge out... that's good entertainment.

wow...

so... it's been a long time since the last update here... A lot has been going on... so I'm just gonna make a list...

--- by the way, these are in no particular order

spring break - good times, went home
interview for a job I don't really want- went quite well
interview for a job I want - went well
still haven't heard from either

Bought Oblivion - very good game

I'm writing a sudoku game in python. It's getting closer to working... but it can't solve a game yet, so it can't create a game either.

Classes are going fairly well.

I was sick for a few days, but I'm all better now.

--- so to make this short, keeping busy and doing fairly well

Tests

I really am not fond of the way that tests tend to all happen about the same time... It doesn't seem to matter what the classes are... it seems that every single one needs to have their first test during the same week... I mean... I understand... that's just how the schedules are set up, but really, that ends up being a really stressful week.

P.S. this is that week. Last week however wasn't too bad, it was fairly nice overall, and then the weekend was good too. Last thursday a bunch of people went to a comedy club in indy and saw Mike Saccone. Then of course there was the super bowl. It was ok... not really all that exciting though, but I still had a good time.

Looking ahead, this weekend my brother and sister are coming for lil sibs weekend, which should be a good time.

names

preface: I will admit... I am not the best with names...

I was just sent an email about a project for a marketing class that was sent to 9 people... 2 were in the group... and the other 7 were named Craig. looks like the guy decided that instead of learning his partners name he would just send it to everyone at the school named craig...

Work

Ok... just as a warning this may or may not actually make any sense. I'm just going to say whatever I'm thinking/remembering about the past few days. For one, class has started and generally my classes look like they'll be fairly interesting, I still don't have many books, mostly because I'm not willing to pay about $400 for my books when I can get them online around $190... for instance... Discrete math, we're using a book published in 1988 and the bookstore charges $92.50 for it used. I got the same book (most likely in better condition) for about $40 after shipping. Now... how can they possibly expect to make any money when they sell books about double the market value? Maybe they'll figure it out someday... but it seems unlikely, simply because that would make sense.

Also lately I've been working a lot the past few days... and I've really enjoyed actually working on stuff. I don't particularly enjoy IT stuff, but at the same time it is nice to be doing something useful with my time (and getting paid for it). We've had a lot of interesting issues (including one involving a long distance call around 9pm to a University in Ohio so that we could get the password to uninstall Norton (which was comical because they used "symantec"... idiots). Also working with a computer running Mac OS 8... that was annoying...

Overall I've actually enjoyed the past few days a lot, and it's been really nice the past week to see people again... (esp Amy)... it was a long break, and I'm glad to be back.

Anyway... just felt like venting a little since I'm not tired yet...
