I'm on a trip to Arizona right now. Instead of the normal 5 F temperatures that I'm used to this time of year I get 60 F. It's really nice. The food and architecture out here is really neat. so... thats it for now.. gotta go

Christmas Break

(because I refuse to call it winter break) has been great so far... and now I'm going to sleep

it's been a while...

since I've had a chance to update my blog, so here we go... I've really been busy with this whole class/work thing... for some reason, all my profs felt the need to give large papers/programs at the same time! WHY THANK YOU. Anyway, I've got one of the programs and two papers done, just 2 more programs to finish, one for Parker's class, the other a group database front-end project. So, even though it is Saturday, I'll be working one of those... but then at least its code and not a paper...

btw I went to Cheap Thrills last night (for those who don't know it is basically a series of funny skits). I'm not sure the name applied this time though, I wasn't sure whether by cheap they meant price ($3) or quality. And as far as Thrills... well they lied. I'd like to ask the Dativus Social Club for my 2 hours back.

stress

It's been a few days since I've taken the time to update my blog. I have just been way too busy lately. It's getting near the end of the semester, so all the professors feel the need to pile on the papers/projects. Always exciting...

post-thanksgiving break

I had a great break. The turkey was great and it was nice to spend some time with family.
Now I'm back at school, and there's a lot to get done. So I'm quite a bit more busy than I would like. and as an added bonus... I'm not sure where my id is... I'm hoping I just left it in the room. Oh well I'll find out soon...

really really strange dream...

It started with me, a couple friends from college, and my parents going to walmart... while we we there me and a friend were reading the news online with a laptop that was sitting on the cart. Then as we were leaving the police showed up, and I was arrested for pushing some guy, who apperently was paralyzed from the neck down because he hit his head on a rail when he fell. BUT I DIDN"T DO IT!!!
So... when the officer went to do the handcuffs I asked if they could at least do it in front of me, and not behind my back, which they were nice enough to do. Then I found out at the station that the guys name was Justin Timberlake... and my first thought was "Oh great, now I've got no chance..."
Luckily, I did have one piece of evidence, the laptop... because I had been busy browsing CNN while the guy got pushed. So then... after sleeping in the dorm room with handcuffs on, I went to court, where the evidence was turned into a video... and revolved aruond these characters--from a horror movie where they have no skin-- were talking about the weather...

Then I woke up.

And I'm glad I did... because not only was it one of the strangest dreams I've ever had, I really thought it was true. So I was really relieved that I didn't have handcuffs on...

Ball State

We went over to Ball State last night for a comedy show with Heather, Michelle, and Ed. It was nice to talk for a while... got to catch up a bit. Also Heather got her licsense plate! woot! She was "uber-excited" about that.

friday

Yesterday night I went to a free concert on campus, and it turned out to be pretty good. My main reason for going was that my neighbor was playing piano, but then also a friend was going too! We actually ended up hanging out for quite a while, which was nice since I hadn't really gotten to know her very well yet.
This morning I woke up to fresh coffee!! I enjoy the new coffee pot. The old one stopped working... like... you plug it in and get it ready... and push the on button... and it sits there...
No Good!
So I bought a new one and its got a timer, so now I can set it for the morning and have fresh coffee when I get up! w00t!

yesterday

yesterday was great... philosophy was cancelled so all I had was jog/walk at 10 (which as always was useless). So since I had no classes I had time to work on the database project for about 2-3 hours, go by mocha joes for a while, where I played pool and had an iced caramel macchiato. Besides all that the wheather yesterday was great, which made for a great day!

... as for today... its raining... a lot... oh well. I'm actually haveing a pretty good day anyway, however, today I'm trying to stay inside...

laptop...

It's coming along, The battery is working great, and I tried out the wireless card in windows XP, now all that I need to do is finish up the fedora core 2 installation and get the wireless card working with linux.
As far as classes go... the database project is due thursday and there is still a lot of work to do for it... so I'm gonna be nice and busy tomorrow...

rope lights

I've had an interesting day... it began when I got up... about 5 min before jog/walk and went over to the wellness center to waste a half hour of my life... after that it got better... Philosophy was interesting, and although I have no idea what is going on with our group prject in database that went suprisingly well.
I got the new battery for the thinkpad in the mail today, and it is charging up quite nicely, now all thats left is the wireless card... which I ordered yesterday, along with a new mouse and keyboard for the desktop from newegg.com.
Another fun thing about today was that my roommate didn't sleep last night... and he's pretty funny after about 30 hours without sleep...

p.s. I just realized that the this had absolutely nothing to do with rope lights... I'm not quite sure why thats the title... but I like it, so its going to stay

Oksoberfest

Oksoberfest was great... root beer by the keg... its just awesome... Music was good, shirts got sold... mostly(meaning its paid for) and I had a lot of root beer. all in all... a great night. now... I think I'll be taking a nap... for about 7-8 hours...

XP

so... out of boredom I installed windows XP on a ibm thinkpad 390e. suprisingly, it runs quite nicely, the only problem being that I have no networking... oh well... I'll probably put linux back on it... possibly gentoo this time... It sounds like fun to sit around watching everything compile... mmm maybe just debian or something...

Fall break!

It's fall break... which means I get a long weekend... and great food... and no class
that's about as good as it gets. It's nice to be home... hope everybody has a great weekend

weekend

friday dad came... and took us out to Red Lobster... it was great... went to cheap thrills afterwards...
which wasn't really all that great compared to normal... there were a few good parts, the best of which was a level in Mario played on stage... it was amazing...
saturday was the Booster Alumni Breakfast, followed be the homecoming street fair, more good food for lunch and dinner a B dubs with Susan and Jared, after which we watched Mallrats back in the dorm... overall a pretty good weekend... now its time to study... ugh

website...

I changed the theme of my website a few days ago... and unfortunately Internet Explorer doesn't have full support of .png images... so instead of a the normal background it shows a gray background in IE... Mozilla displays perfect and I forgot to check IE before I changed it... oh well... I'll go back to photoshop and change the image a bit...
well... its about time to go get lunch... then the joys of classes

naps

I spent most of the day trying to get some work done... but actually it was mostly just a day of napping... so it was quite enjoyable, and I ended up getting a lot done. Also, I have worked on my webpage, and I'm almost ready to put up the fall theme... hopefully that'll happen tomorrow, or more precisely today, after I get access to photoshop, so I can finish up the graphics.

water

there's a brita pitcher sitting on a dresser on the other side of the room. Nothing out of the ordinary, except there's a tv on across the hall and the pitcher is between me and the door. Also there is some water in the pitcher, not a lot though, only about 1/4 full... anyway, the point of all this is that I can see the picture coming through the water, witch I wouldn't otherwise be able to see. I can't decipher what it is playing... but the neat part is that it took something being in the way for me to see the picture at all, even though it isn't clear...

presidential debate

I watched most of the debate yesterday and I thought it was fairly interesting, but I didn't really feel like either one was convincing... I'm still leaning towards Bush, but really all I'm sure about is that I don't like Edwards... oh well...

Thursday

It's now 1:32... I don't have anything to do for classes tomorrow, and I should sleep... but I'm not really tired... I guess thats what I get for sleeping till noon today. oh well... I'm gonna try and sleep now, hopefully this way I'll be able to wake up easily for class tomorrow.

good times...

I've spent much of the afternoon learning the basics of the Python Programming language... I like the simplicity and power it offers... I'm not sure how I'll use it... but its been an interesting afternoon, so I'm happy even if I never use it.

btw, I have a girlfriend now... thats all for now...

weekend

This weekend went pretty well, I slept most of the day saturday, then played in the first annual Avanti Booster dodgeball tournament, where my team got into the final round and I witnessed one of my teammates take out 7 members of the other team in a mere 32 seconds.
Then today my mom came to town and we went out for dinner at Olive Garden. That was a great dinner...

also I did a little spanish homework... No me gusta español. ¿Te gusta estudias español?

Napoleon Dynamite

I saw it again last night... that movie rocks... It's so completely random. Also, the extra scene after the credits is awesome... "I love technology..."

Pizza and Bowling

Last night was great... between having real pizza for dinner (not the stuff on campus) and going bowling, I had a great time. Ended up just being me and Laura, which was fine. It was great to get 5 or 6 games in for just $4! gotta love wednesday night bowling...

weekend movies

This weekend I saw two really great movies, Napoleon Dynamite, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind...
Napoleon Dynamite is amazing in that it has no plot and is amazingly quotable.

Eternal Sunshine is really strange, but is amazing. Although it probably not the best movie for children it is a great movie for college students.

Also I had a really good time hanging out with friends...

Music

I can't stand chapel music anymore... its all good, and all the same... I think this is because everyone expects to hear "church music". My problem with this is that I don't really feel that praise and worship music should have its own genre. Unfortuanately it does. I would just like to know one good reason for musicians to hold back from playing what they enjoy/their best. I really feel like thats what happens when music is played for church/chapel.

I would really like to see different styles of music played, pop, punk, metal, rap, classical, jazz... the list goes on...

Jog/Walk

I'd just like to mention today that jog/walk is the most pointless, annoying, waste of my life. Seriously... I'm almost sure I could pass without even looking at the book.
Which leads me on to my second point, Athletic coaches are generally tools. While I don't want to stereotype people, it has been my experience so far in life that an athletic coach is not the kind of person that you can expect to hear anything profound from. It's all just the same regurgitated facts and tag-lines.
So basically, I feel that my going to class may in fact hve a negative effect on my mind, however, the one good part is the physical activity.

Rush

this week has been awesome... Rushing Avanti Boosters. Sure it was a lot of work, but its well worth it.
only problem is that I'm really really sore... but that'll go away soon.

so, I have 5 classes today... well only 4 more to go, but I had samething I was supposed to do for all of them(i think) and I think I've done it all, except one thing that isn't being graded yet...

...I just hope I actually finished it.

on a side note, I got a package in the mail!!! w00t!

labor day weekend

had an interesting weekend... between a little work, a late night walk around campus, a concert at camerata, dinner in the courtyard, and homework, I'm keeping pretty busy.

also this weekend jared's grandpa brought, and assembled a shelf he designed for our dorm... its pretty sweet, it just sits on the corners of the lofts.

Anyway, that was basically my weekend in two sentences. now for two words

Haven Run!!!

so... it seems that the most exciting thing in my schedule tonight is a run to the haven... and thats just sorta sad.
Now... don't get me wrong... a trip to the haven for a quick bite to eat can be pretty exciting... but to be the most exciting thing this evening... thats not so wonderful.... oh well.

so... sunday brunch is definately my favorite meal on campus... I mean, its something to look forward to. Anyway, it was good today... and now we're back in the room... trying to get stuff all straightened up before class starts tomorrow.

Today seemed to go pretty well, only had one problem I didn't know any way to fix... so that was good. Sounds like most people could get in ok, so overall it seems to have been a good start.

rain...

It just started raining... which is awesome... I love rain, especially if there's lightning. It's just so cool to watch. The way it lights up the sky... and the thunder. ahh anyway. I did have to close the window though. Thats ok though.

Anderson

I moved back in last night... its nice to be back... I actually remembered most of the stuff, just forgot a cover for the couch(its kinda old) and the charger for the phone... so that'll be coming soon hopefully...

showplace...

I'm finally done working at the movie theatre . . . and I'm glad. It was nice, but I could use something that pays a little better next summer. . . but I'll worry about that later, for now I've got other stuff to worry about, like packing for school. Move in is this sunday! Then monday I start training for my job on campus.

On another, somewhat related topic, I will soon be spending all my money on books. ugh . . .

I also saw an interesting quote today "If everyone likes you, you're not doing anything worthwhile."

The Villlage

I saw the village tonight... it was a pretty good movie, not what I expected, but that was good. It had some very interesting twists that made it a lot different. It was a little strange, but good...

turned out to be a nice night, a good movie with a great friend

Google is the best... I'm really bored at the moment... so I did a search for "bored out of my fricken mind". Not only did it return about 2,300 results, it also asked me if I meant "frickin" instead of "fricken". Now that is the way I want a search engine to work... anyway... looking through some random blogs and websites written by others, who were extremely bored.

Friday's

I found out tonight that Friday's has a new Jack Daniels Burger... It was really good. Anyway, after that I went out to pick up some stuff... since I'm planning to make pulled pork sandwiches this week... mmm. Also today I spent an hour or two messing around with my Thinkpad 390e, running Debian Linux... Thats always fun, the only problem is that it has a bad battery... so its no longer mobile... and it has no internet connection.... hopefully I'll be able to fix those problems... however it may not be worth the price... I'll just have to see.

working at the theatre today...um, yesterday was kinda crazy... the place was packed... apparently everyone wants to see "The Village", of course it was a good preview... I'll just have to see what its like...

Democratic Convention

ok... so I just listened to John Kerry's nomination speech.

I now believe that his goals are to raise taxes for the rich, lower them for the middle-class, make healthcare free for all americans, try to get 40,000 more people into the military, attack terrorists, not go to war without allies, make people feel good, and win.

Really what I'm getting from this is he wants to win, and he is willing to say anything that will get someone to vote for him, even if he has to say things that conflict with each other... so in essence he has no plan... well... at least he has 3 purple hearts...
